MW was retained to evaluate this alluvial deposit in eastern Venezuela to determine the economic potential for recovery of gold diamonds and titanium from the gravels of the Lower Caroni River.

This report sets out the background and details of a potential commercial project to recover gold, diamonds, black sand (titanium) plus sand and gravel from the 500 hectare Rosita Concession on the Lower Caroni River in Venezuela.

Site PhotoThis report reviewed all of the data available from previous testing as well as operating records.

Small independent dredge operators have mined the Caroni River for over 30 years with diamonds originally being the primary resource. The mining focus changed in the 1980’s to gold recovery. Currently about 200 dredges work the entire Caroni River, with about 50 to 60 on the Lower Caroni.

Mining is continuing on the Concession using both Contractor and company owned dredges. The predominant mining method is to use dredges with divers, “missile” pipes or crude cutter heads to excavate the basal gravels.

MW recommended that the Client should proceed with a comprehensive testing program to evaluate all of the commercial products. The testing would be separated into a limited Phase I (scoping ) program followed by a “Phase II Testing” is a bulk sample testing using an airlift dredge, or similar equipment, to recover between 10,000 and 50,000 tonnes for processing through an on-site test facility.
