EBRD - Elgran » Project: Elgran » Country: Ukraine » Commodity: Dimension Stone MW completed the review of Elgran, a granite block producing company in Ukraine, on behalf of the European Bank For Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The tasks included the site review of the company plus analysis of the preliminary Business Plan. A second task consisted of preparation of a new revised Business Plan. Elgran is a successful producer of granite block looking to upgrade its mining facilities and with a view to adding cutting and polishing capacity in the future. Ukraine holds some of the most significant granite deposits in the world. However, due to the inefficiency of existing plants and the wide-spread inability to adapt to the post-FSU changes, only 28 out of the total quarry population of 122 reported any production in the last few years. Elgran is one of the few companies that successfully managed the leap to overcome problems that are otherwise inherent in the industry, such as inefficient mining practices, mismanagement of plants, establish entrepreneurial spirit and market presence.
