Supplementary Data/Key Qualifications:
» Evaluate possible flooding exacerbation from timbering and mining activities for a large West Virginia watershed
» Completed stream reconstruction and restoration plans for a coal mining operation in West Virginia.
» Designed watershed capture, stream re-establishment, lake outfall structure, and stormwater pollution control system for a large surface quarry.
» Evaluated flood potential and designed mitigation for a large surface mining operation
» Performed hydrologic evaluations of alternate stream alignments to provide environmental and resource extraction optimization for a coal mining operation in West Virginia.
» Completed an evaluation of the Surface Water Runoff Analysis program for the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
» Evaluated subsidence potential for certain AML operations in Wyoming.
» Evaluated potential impact of blasting and heavy equipment vibrations on earthen dam stability.
» Conducted an evaluation of mining impacts on a historic eastern Kentucky settlement school. Project included pre-blast investigation, evaluation of hydrologic impacts, and documentation of property location, condition and viewscapes.
» Preliminary site design for an underground quarry operation in Northern Kentucky, which included assistance for the acquisition of a zone change before the local planning commission.
» Completed a site design for a marble quarry preparation facility in northern Alabama. Also provided environmental consulting for the adjacent quarry operations, including the re-design of an existing pond to provide the appropriate design flood routing through the facility.
» Formulated alternate dragline mine plans for a proposed surface mining operation
» Analysis of a reclaimed mine slope in Eastern Kentucky to determine the cause of sliding that was endangering a major gas line conduit. The investigation included subsurface analysis by noninvasive electromagnetic probes to determine the location and flow of water through the backfill material.
» Phase 1 environmental survey was completed for an Eastern Kentucky property that had a variety of uses including mining activities and oil and gas wells. The comprehensive investigation included an analysis of historical records, interviewing local citizens, study of mine workings, reviewing public databases, and sampling of soil and water. Remediation measures were formulated after completion of the investigation.
» Managed the engineering department for New Horizons Coal Inc. Responsibilities included the acquisition of property, oversight of the mine design and environmental compliance divisions.
» Completed and acquired the first Permanent Program Mining Permit in the state of Kentucky. The permit included a surface mine with a Class “C” sediment impoundment and hollow fill that were all designed according to the new Permanent Program standards.
» Conducted a reserve analysis audit of a proposed surface mine in southern Colorado.
» Completed a ground control analysis of a proposed mine located in Virginia. The analysis included a study of available E-Logs and driller logs and the mapping of zones of varying levels of roof competency.
» Environmental analysis of various properties to determine the extent of liability present prior to acquisition.
